Big Dig Delft (part 29)
Along the viaduct
It's been almost a year since the last Big Dig post. Another year where Delft's citizens plodded amidst the chaos created by cranes, wheel loaders and drills. Also a year where the completion date was postponed with another year to 2016...
Cyclists negotiate a road crossing surrounded by a forest of temporary traffic signs and overshadowed by building cranes |
Windmill 'de Roos' still stripped off its sails, a safe working sign in Spanish at the entrance
Concrete and more concrete (this is the tunnel roof)
Crane ballet and the 'wildbrei fiets' at the entrance of the station
Bicycle overload (left)
Ambulance with the - to be replaced by new because too ugly - town hall in the back ground |
The windmill's foundation lifted to dig the tunnel underneath; the right shows how deep the rabbit hole really goes...
Cranes, cranes and more cranes. There can't be many left in the rest of the world...
Update: At night it looks the same in different light....
Update: Found a really cool picture from the 1930's of the windmill from the same standpoint (different angle)
