Obviously of Greek foundation - though no concrete evedence for it has been found except for the name - the city of Cefalu is an almost mondaine sea-side city today. It's a curious combination of ressort and town that serves its hinterland.
Overduidelijk van Griekse oorsprong - hoewel daar geen hard bewijs voor is behalve de naam - is Cefalu vandaag de dag een bijna mondaine kustplaats. Het heeft curieuze combinatie van resort en streekfunctie.
The 'Duomo' (Cathedral) is from 1131 and very very Romanesque. Except that... Hé... Somebody built 'pointed arches' down the nave... Which I always thought was distinctive Gothic. Welll yes. It appears that the first use of them dates back to 1093 and the concept was used in pre-islamic architecture already... I'm no longer worried we're looking at a falsification.
De 'Duomo' is uit 1131 en héél erg Romaans. Behalve dan... Eenmaal binnen, blijkt het schip van de ker gevuld met punt-bogen. En ik dacht nou juist dat ie héél erg Gothisch waren. Blijkt eigenlijk die puntboog al in 1093 voor het eerst te zijn toegepast en bovendien ook al te zijn gebruikt in pre-islamitische architectuur in het Midden-Oosten... Blijkbaar toch authentiek...
