Peugeot 504, even older than the 405 still built in Iran. |
Iranian built Mercedes L truck. |
King of the Road in Iran is de Mercedes L truck.
If it's the result of the boycots or not, Iran appears to have a strong local automotive industry. Particularly the Peugeot 405 appears to be the mainstay of motoring Persia. PSA discontinued this model in 1997; Iran Khodo (IKCO) still produces this car and has achieved 98% Iranian self-sufficiency in Peugeot 405 parts manufacturing.
The second is the Zamya pickup truck, which in reality is a continuation of the Nissan Junior, discontinued in 1982.
King of the Road in Iran is the Mercedes L lorry. In Germany the last one of those rolled off the assembly line in 1995, but Iran builds two varieties as Benz Meiller models Khawar 2624 and 1924.
And let's not forget the 125cc motorcycle. Usualy a Honda CG125 or remake of that. Entire families use it as their first means of transportation. Until 2008 this motorcycle was built under the name Honda; licenced and unlicenced copies are still produced in Pakistan and Iran under various names, today.
All on the 125cc.... |
